Daily Deviation

Given 2011-01-12
The suggester says,"Never before has the idea of Death- the finality of death- been so effectively portrayed. It's a thought which haunts many of us with it's very real presence and inescapable eventually. Usually well-known for his great and zany sense of humor, `Endling here has loaded perhaps a half-dozen panels with an immense, crushing gravity."

My god, this is stunning...
It captures the phobia of nonexistence perfectly.

this just blew me away the first time I ever saw it. The sheer panic in his eyes as it fades to black is something to behold, a startling portrayal of the inevitability of death. As an Atheist myself, the implications are startling. Though if anything, this just convinces me to be sure of my principles when my time comes.
Many Thanks.

Even though I hadn't read the previous pages, and had no idea of who any of them was or what had happened, this left me speechless. I understood most of it perfectly well anyway, and most of all I understood his feelings. So well captured I felt his fear like my own. I am not exactly religious, but I don't like the idea of there being nothing after death, and this comic frightened me because it left me thinking there really was nothing - and even if it's just a comic, it sort of made me believe it. Excellent work!

I believe the scentence was faded out as he, well, died. The word would be 'nothing'; it fits in with what the character was saying before hand.

The fact that you just sent shivers up my spine, in feeling for a character I only met a few pages ago - who, lets not forget - is against the main character we were originally rooting for....

I dunno. The goosbumps on my arms are chilling.

Well done.

I really like the endless finality portrayed here.

It plays on a very real and primal fear. That at the end, there is nothing. Not even the sense of nothing. Just oblivion.

Did anything matter? Was it all worth it in the end? Why?

Think about it this way, if there is nothingness after death, at least you won't be around to regret it.

This was intense, near the end. Nothingness has always stuck me as being utterly terrifying, and to see the way this comic page played with that... it just about gave me chills. I had to read the next page, just to see if it ended more happily. :) Congrats on the DD.

Whoa, this is a good page, the paneling is well set. and the tone is absolutely fantastic. the narrative voice is natural and desperate and the illustrations speak volumes as well. The uncertainty and finality of death and what comes next mixed with the terrifying possibility of not existing is haunting. Well done!
