So yeah, I love me some games. I think that much is obvious to anyone passing by my part of the site. Got character designs for games, characters who LOVE games, fighty-gamey pixel sprites, the whole megillah!

Though I grew up on a steady diet of fighting games and RPGs, lately I've grown to love open world stuff. And I don't mean open world in the eh.. Grand Theft Auto sense? More like Fallout, Skyrim, Terraria, and the can't-come-out-soon-enough-Starbound. I even run my own Minecraft server with enough mods to choke a mammoth. (Incidentally there are mammoths on the server. Thank you Mo' Creatures!)

So to the point, I found this little gem on Kickstarter here.. [link]

And it looks awesome. It's 'Features' listing reads like a who's-who of everything I could ever want in a game. And I'm pretty stingy when it comes to Kickstarter. I've only ever backed two projects. One of them was another open-world post-apocalyptic resource-gathering base-building venture by the name of Forsaken Fortress, and now this one here, Roam.

Now I can't lie. I'll be the first to say I've grown completely and utterly fed up with the concept of zombies. It feels like the most tired, unimaginative, creatively lazy enemy cliché in the book at this point. Just a personal opinion. Clearly lots of love is still out there for zombies or game devs wouldn't keep shoveling them out by the festering truckload. But I'm definitely not among that group anymore.

And yet? Still? The game looks like it could be something really, really fun.  It's a multiplayer game, co-op for you and three buddies, that has you fighting for scavenging for resources, fending for your lives, barricading buildings or constructing forts on your own in the wilderness, and encountering fellow citizens like yourself.. then either befriending them, kicking their buckets for their supplies, or having your own bucket roundly kicked. I love it. Love every bit of it. Though I'm curious about the longevity of the game. I like a good sandbox world where you can hunker down and really eke out a living in, against all odds, as opposed to more.. L4D-like sessions wherein you're only tasked to survive as long as the round goes on, with an ending in sight after about an hour or so. With the notion of world persistence mentioned in the actual Kickstarter, my hopes for the former are high, though.

Anyway, I should probably stop yammering on, and let anyone interested just read what's-what over on the actual Kickstarter. I've already backed it myself, and I thought anyone with a similar lust for sandboxy open-worldy co-op goodness wouldn't mind being pointed in its direction.

Here's hoping it gets backed! (And then some, 'cause some of those stretch goal prizes seem sweet..)

Later folks!

Can I just say that your art it such a huge influence on my style and work, I honestly don't think I'd be anywhere near I am right now if I didn't have your work to inspire me and push me forward. You have pure, raw, and undeniable talent and I only hope that one day I'll be able to draw like you :'>. Even when I look back to my first couple of sketches and the to the work I put out now it's clear I've come a long way, and that drive and passion to move forward and advance is majorly due to you and your works.
Well... thank you.
